Fall Colors

Ice House Pond

14x11inch, oil on stretched canvas

SOLD

I started this painting in the fall of last year and then got stuck with it, and then tossed it in the pile of ones to be worked on. Well, I spent some more time with it today bringing out much more of the fall colors

Something Different...

Palette Knife Apple, 6x6inch on 3/4inch stretched canvas

SOLD

I've always wanted to attempt a palette knife painting using gobs of paint, it was a lot of fun and a lot of paint! If you click on the image you should be able to see the thick layers piled one on top of the other....probably not going to be drying anytime soon.

Took a hike on Lane's Island, which is an island reserve connected to the island of Vinalhaven, Maine via a one lane bridge, and found this tree that deserved a portrait.

Getting ready for July show

I'm in the process of working on mulitple paintings, getting geared up for a show in early July. This is a first pass on a still life. I find that taking a photo helps me see where I need to go a little further with a painting

Sunflowers

12" x 9", oil on 3/4" stretched canvas

Sold

I use mostly a square format in my paintings, although sometimes it's nice, and more fitting really, to use a traditional rectangular canvas to make for a better compostion.

Tropic Dawn

Well, here's the final glazing of this 6x6inch tropical landscape. Sometimes I like taking my time in building up the transparent tinted glazes, resulting with a nice glow at the end.

Everglades Underpainting

Everglades underpainting, 6x6inch

I've decided to attempt a slower approach on my next Everglades painting. I'll start with an underpainting and then slowly build up the colors through multi layers of glazing, hopefully ending with a dramatic result

Everglades

Everglades Vista

5x7 inch, oil on panel
sold

Although this was painted from a photo from our trip to the Everglades last November, it seems as though it could be from any marsh here in New England. I'll try adding a palm tree in the next one....

Snowbound...

I just finished 4 of these small paintings for a collector that's getting together for a girls' weekend with 3 of her close friends. Being housebound yesterday with the kids, due to 18" of snow, it helped the soul working on a tropical painting. I've got to find my photos from our last everglades trip and try a few more.
Here's one of my favorite everglades painters, Jo-Ann Sanborn

Winter Dreaming

Yesterday I received a request to make a similair painting to my Winter Dreaming, but smaller. Last week I received a request for a copy of the same painting, but with 4 friends sitting on the beach looking out at sea..........along with 3 additional copies, one for each friend of the buyer. I guess it must mean that winter has set in since the palm on the beach is so popular!
